Posts which don’t really fit anywhere else

Update in brief…

7th October 2007

I know I know, it’s been forever since I’ve posted anything… I’ve been completely consumed by various things including selling our old house, working on a project for a client and life in general. It seems I’ve gotten out of the habit of posting (or gotten into the habit of NOT posting) and have ignored you all for too long (again)… For this I apologize.

21st June 2007

Our second buyer backed out at the last minute. Turns out they could not obtain financing. So, we’re back where we started…

Lack of posts

7th February 2007

I’d like to apologize for the recent lack of posts. It hasn’t been my intention to take a hiatus but the days just seem to slip by without my having time to update the site.

Rest assured that I’ll be back at it soon. Just need to deal with a few personal situations (some of which will become fodder for posts here. :) )

Thanks for your patience.

Sub $2.00 gas?!

19th January 2007

I’ve been stuck inside all week with the flu (103.5 temps bring on really weird dreams…) Today however, I had a rescheduled (from Monday) appointment with an Oral Surgeon. It seems that at nearly 40 years of age it is now finally time for me to have my wisdom teeth pulled. Figuring out the schedule now but I am not looking forward to it…

Prosper sells off first batch of bad debts

15th January 2007

According to a Yahoo Group I’m subscribed to, Prosper recently completed the sale of the first batch of bad debts to a collection agency. What this means is that a group of loans that were many months past-due have been sold to a debt collection agency for some number of pennies on the dollar.

None of my loans were sold so I can’t speak from any personal experience. I would have liked to have seen what the percentage recovered was though, would help plan for what my expected return will be.

MS Money 2004 Expired…

1st January 2007

I’ve been using MS Money 2004 for about a year and a half now. For the most part I like it. It’s relatively simple and keeping our finances up to date have been relatively easy. That just got harder to do however since Micro$oft decided that the online functionality should expire…

Last minute donations

30th December 2006

My wife and I have been spending a fair amount of time unpacking boxes from our move a few month’s ago. One thing moving tends to do is make you realize how much stuff you have that you no longer need. We literally had two bedrooms full of boxes that we haven’t used in some time (at least since we’ve moved here and probably a lot longer than that!)

Carnival of Personal Finance #80

26th December 2006

Apologies for not having this up first thing in the morning. There were a lot more submissions to go through than I expected…

Anyway, without further ado, I present the 80th installment of the Carnival of Personal Finance! I’ll be reading through the submissions I haven’t already today and moving the catagories or deleting irrelevant posts. If you find any problems, please contact me.

An unanticipated cost of living in the country

19th December 2006

I was driving to a town about 15 miles from our house and my wife’s office to meet her for dinner last night. Most of the trip is on a rural two-lane highway where traffic typically moves along at 65-70 mph. A deer decided it could make the crossing between an oncoming car and myself and misjudged… Normally I would have swerved behind the deer into the opposite lane to avoid it but the oncoming car made this impossible. I swerved instead to the shoulder but the deer kept on coming and I hit it at approximately 65 mph.
