I apologize for the performance issues the site has experienced over the last few weeks. One of my clients has a site which has proven to be more successful than either of us anticipated and it’s been affecting the other sites I host (including this one.)
I’ve got an additional server set up for him now and will be moving his site to it over the next few days. Once that is complete this site should start to be much faster.

The market had an awesome day today despite the continued rise in oil prices. The main impetus for this was a modest rise in the March PPI numbers (Producer Price Index - mainly this is a measure of inflation for businesses.) Another piece of good news came from the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC)’s minutes which gave indication that the Fed was close to finished with raising interest rates.
All of my holdings were up by at least 1% with GSX up nearly 13% for the day! I will not be at all surprised if there is some profit-taking tomorrow bringing stocks down a bit.

It’s been a while since I’ve bought or sold any stocks in my taxable account. I’ve been continuing to contribute $1,000 per month to the account and now have a balance of just under $11,000. I’ve been watching a few stocks and today decided to pull the trigger on two of them. This will diversify my account a bit and hopefully allow me to capture some more gains.

Building wealth is more about the money you keep than the income you generate. Even those with modest incomes can build enormous fortunes as demonstrated by many blog posts, books and articles. A key component to this in most, if not all of these cases is regular investing over time. You don’t need to invent the next great thing since sliced bread or invest in penny stocks with 1,000% returns to get there. Invest regularly and conservatively and put away as much as you can as early as you can. Given enough time and a surprisingly small investment you can generate millions of dollars. It goes without saying that the less money you spend on your every day expenses the more you will have available to invest. (of course you also need the discipline to actually invest - but that is for another post…)

This is the first post of a series I’ll be doing on government and other public sources of solid financial information. I’ve added a category called Financial Information Resources which will contain all of the posts in the series. I’ll be characterizing and rating the sites based on the type of information they have as well as how valuable I found it to be. So without further delay, my guide to Financial Information Resources:

We still haven’t filed but have finsihed with our receipts. I sent a note to our accountant to file an extension for us. I’ve gone and estimated our taxes for the year. Sadly, we won’t be able to start Roth IRAs this year, our income was too high for us to qualify. One business showed a small profit, the other a somewhat larger loss. It would have been much closer to profitable if not for the loss of the horse to colic last year.

Quick post this morning because I am running late…
Since I started managing a team of developers almost three years ago I’ve found my coding skills have gotten a bit less shar than they used to be. While I’m still a developer at heart I spend too much time in meetings and have too many other responsibilities to write code on a regular basis. I still like to code and even find/make time to do so every now and then. I also pitch in on projects when the team is overwhelmed. While I’ve managed to put together a pretty decent library for the team, I often find that a quick, searchable resource is more useful.

We still haven’t finished our taxes and will likely have to file an extension. Not a huge deal but disappointing.
As I posted before, work has been nuts for the last couple of months. My wife had surgery on Thursday (was in the hospital until Friday). She came through it fine (looks like someone beat her up though…her face is all bruised.)

I’ve updated the links on the site. There were a few sites that appear to no longer be around (or hadn’t been updated in months.) If you have a personal finance or investment related blog and would like to trade links send me an email @ mypfblog@gmail.com.

I’ve finally found a theme I like. I’ll be making a few tweaks to it here and there over the next day or two but for now I think this is the new look for MyPFBlog. The new theme loses the calendar which I never really liked anyway and added a search field. It also just looks cleaner to me.
Let me know what you all think. I am always open to comments and criticism.
